At the end of May 2020, Cernobbio will become the go-to destination for automobile aficionados from all over the world. A select elite from the international collector scene will come together there once again. The official opening of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este will take place on Friday 22nd May 2020.

The excitement will start to mount on Saturday when all the vehicles take up their positions in the morning. On 23rd May 2020, around 50 blue-riband and carefully selected classic cars will be appraised in the exclusive gardens of Villa d’Este. The traditional apogee of this lavish presentation comes when each of the vehicles parades on the terrace of the Grand Hotel directly overlooking the banks of Lake Como. This day is the sole preserve of participants and invited guests.

On Sunday, a procession will be staged in the park of the nearby Villa Erba. These grounds also occupy a majestic position directly on the edge of the lake and their expansive green swards offer the public audience the opportunity to take a closer look at these exceptional automobiles. This frequently also enables visitors to engage in discussions with the custodians and owners of the vehicles, as well as talking to celebrities from the automobile world – the Concorso Villa d’Este is recognised particularly by designers as a superlative travel destination. You are unlikely to find a comparable selection of legendary automobile jewels anywhere else in the world.

And let’s not forget the Concorso di Motociclette, which will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2020. Across the world, there is virtually no other opportunity to experience rare two-wheelers of this quality at a single venue. The motorcycles tell their own stories and symbolise the lifeblood of their owners, who have invested so much care in these eye witnesses to the development of motorised transport.

BMW Group Classic is also planning to hold special thematic exhibitions in 2020. They will captivate visitors and take them into an enchanting world with additional rare and exciting vehicles.

Today, the coming Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este already looks set to create a sensation with an introductory surprise. The upcoming edition of the event in May 2020 will embrace a vehicle class as a special feature that will define a new dimension for automobile beauty contests. “Hypercars of the 1990s” is the motto that will write a new chapter and undoubtedly captivate many visitors – particularly the younger generation.

They were launched 30 years ago. The 1990s played a unique and pivotal role in automobile history. At the time, the rather unexpected advent of the hypercar era generated considerable enthusiasm. It was by no means a renaissance. After all, this kind of burgeoning scene had never before been witnessed in the development of mobility. It gave rise to the attainment of ever greater performance peaks and unmitigated pleasure in extreme forms of exotic sports cars. Suddenly there were no longer any limits to pushing boundaries further. For the first time, the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este will showcase these rare species which represent an era that seems to be within touching distance yet already lies so far in the past.

The “Hypercars of the 1990s” will also form a special feature as one of the classes that structure the field of participants thematically. Two other classes have also been defined. “Cops and Robbers” will present “fast cars from both sides of the law”, recalling that age-old tussle between ne’er-do-wells and law-enforcement officers, which traditionally featured some scintillating automobile stars. This class will ensure a suspenseful scene this coming May with some unique episodes from criminal history.

The third class already known is open to curated “Pre-war Roadsters”. This class at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este will not only recall a genre of lightweight, open-top sports cars that immediately became popular. It will also honour the 90th anniversary of BMW roadsters. In 1930, the brand’s first sports car was launched on the race track as the BMW 3/15 PS DA3 Wartburg, naturally as a roadster – and it was an instant success in motor sport.

When the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este reaches its pinnacle at the end of May 2020, two questions will be hot topics for discussion among the participants and guests: Who will win the BMW Group Trophy as the Best of Show? And who will be honoured with the legendary Coppa d’Oro, which was already awarded to the most beautiful car in 1929? We cordially extend a warm invitation to you to enter for this challenge with your car – we will be delighted if you are interested in participating, irrespective of the class and year of manufacture.
