Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2020Corriere d’Eleganza III

Dear Friends of the Concorso,

The year 2019 is now coming to an end. This is the time when our thoughts turn back to the past year. Last summer already seems to have receded into the distance, and with it the last Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. However, in our memory, those days come back to life.

It is also a moment when we start to look forward. We are about to embark on a new year full of exciting stories that we have yet to write. We are especially looking forward to one particular tale. From 22nd to 24th May 2020, the next edition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este will once again captivate everybody who wants to share their enthusiasm for fabulous classic cars with other connoisseurs from all over the world, while enjoying the wealth of richly pleasurable moments Northern Italy holds in store during early summer. It is an experience that finds its fulfilment in the marvellous grounds and parkland on the shores of Lake Como.

Before we briefly take time out at the end of the year, we are delighted to provide you with two news items. Firstly, after the magnificent success this year, we will once again organise an exclusive Prelude Tour in 2020. You will find more details on this further down.
Secondly, the Selecting Committee has just confirmed another class in which Historic Cars can compete. The class is entitled “From Swinging Sixties to Awesome Eighties: Two Decades of Endurance Racing”. This choice means there is no doubt that the coming edition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este holds out the promise for a field of participants with a highly emotional charge. You can read more about this in the following section.

However, for now we would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you next May.

The Prelude Tour 2020: A journey through paradise

Last May, the first edition was undoubtedly a resounding success. The Prelude Tour took a small group of participants and their Historic Cars to the most beautiful locations north of Cernobbio. Now it’s certain: 2020 will see a new edition of the sought-after outing.

The Prelude Tour 2020: A journey through paradise

It is a paradise for anybody who likes to see Historic Cars on the move. The landscape around Villa d’Este is ideal for staging an exciting trip in a classic car. The southern atmosphere around the lake entices participants to embark on the exclusive Prelude Tour. Most of the route is along the edge of the lake and offers some fantastic impressions. Ancient, picturesque villages with narrow alleyways and bars morph into roads that negotiate the interplay between rocks and water.

When the route takes us in the direction of the mountains, the vegetation changes with every metre ascended. The roads curve upwards away from Mediterranean flair adorned with palm trees and the enticing colours of bougainvillea, as the landscape evolves with every metre of altitude and becomes more alpine. With every bend, the vistas become more spectacular. This is where mountains, valleys and lakes show their splendour and boundless glory.

Gastronomic jewels are nestling here that only local people are aware of. However, in the 2020 edition one of these magical places will once again open its doors to the participants of the Prelude Tour. The many highpoints will offer a host of unforgettable experiences.

One of the next Corriere d’Eleganza newsletters will contain more information about the route and registration. However, one thing is certain. The places on the starter list will still be strictly limited – in other words, this will continue to be an exclusive outing.

Memories of gripping nights: endurance racers come to Villa d’Este

The fourth class of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este has now been confirmed: “From Swinging Sixties to Awesome Eighties: Two Decades of Endurance Racing” is the title. It will define exciting contrasts by creating the framework for a league of racing cars that will provide a vibrant stimulus with their radical aesthetic impact on the enchanting parkland atmosphere on the shores of Lake Como.

Memories of gripping nights: long-distance runners come to Villa d’Este

This is the fourth class to be confirmed and it broadens the field of participants in an exceptionally inspiring approach. “From Swinging Sixties to Awesome Eighties: Two Decades of Endurance Racing” promises a field of very specific beauty. This is all about the aesthetics of a brutal aspiration to operate at peak performance over a long period of time. Endurance racing is frequently carried out over a period of 24 hours and the machines need to run reliably over this period. It’s no wonder that people have always been hugely fascinated by this form of motor sport. There are hours of driving in the evening twilight, followed by headlamps scudding through the dark night, always accentuated by deep roars flying past or the high-pitched scream of engines, depending on the technical solutions favoured by the competing teams.

A category of classic cars here rolls off the infinite asphalt of the race tracks onto the manicured gravel of Villa d’Este. These automobiles really have earned the soubriquet of “missile” that is so often misappropriated. They are endurance sprinters that have written motor-sport history. These racing cars will now write a new chapter for the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Alongside their highly expressive styling that has to accord with the requirements of pure functionality, their unique acoustic tones will reverberate with a sound that will go down in history.

Alongside this class populated with competing endurance racing cars, three other classes have already been defined: “Hypercars of the 1990s”, “Cops and Robbers: Fast Cars from Both Sides of the Law” and “Pre-war Roadsters” will form the thematic focuses in May 2020. Additional classes will follow shortly. In each case, we are very much looking forward to further applications from vehicles – expressly including those that do not fit into any of the categories previously highlighted.
