Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2024 Corriere d’Eleganza X

Dear Friend of the Concorso,

If you are looking for a landscape of unrivalled beauty, Lake Como is the place for you. Where the Alps meet the Italian dolce vita, majestic mountains frame the lake and create diverse, deeply moving experiences with so many different pleasures. We look forward to welcoming you to this emotive setting on the weekend of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on 25 and 26 May 2024 to experience elegance in a unique and moving way.

Many of the objects that we find fascinating are based on basic geometric shapes – including the design of classic cars and mechanical watches. This is especially true of timepieces from A. Lange & Söhne, our long-standing partner at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este since 2012. A consistent design language and geometric codes lend each of the German manufacture’s six watch families its own inimitable look. On many of the dials, the triangle plays an essential role. Its geometric perfection and symmetry are pleasing to the eye and make it, together with a multitude of meticulously thought-out details, instantly recognisable as a Lange timepiece. This philosophy is beautifully expressed in the 1815 CHRONOGRAPH “Como Edition”, a unique piece created by A. Lange & Söhne exclusively for the “Best of Show” winner that will be awarded at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The triangle also makes a striking appearance in the design of several other A. Lange & Söhne models.

LANGE 1 MOON PHASE

The LANGE 1 symbolises the manufacture’s continued quest to bring new concepts into life. Its off-centre dial configuration follows the shape of an isosceles triangle, where the centre of the outsize date, power reserve and subsidiary seconds are connected by three imaginary lines.

RICHARD LANGE JUMPING SECONDS

The design of this regulator dial refers to the era of observation watches. It arranges the hour, minute and second displays separately in a triangle to ensure clear legibility.

DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN

The DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN incorporates Lange’s triangular principle once again: the outsize date forms the peak of an equilateral triangle and in order to create a sense of spatial harmony, the two totalisers were moved downwards. This design is particularly expressive in the latest addition introduced at this year’s Watches and Wonders. Limited to 125 pieces, the new DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN combines an 18-carat white gold case with a blue dial. Discover how, 25 years after its first launch in 1999, this pioneering timepiece continues to stand out in the manufacture chronograph category.

1815 CHRONOGRAPH “Como Edition”

This special edition of the 1815 CHRONOGRAPH in white gold, reserved for the winner of the “Best of Show” at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, follows the rules of vertical axial symmetry. The two sub-dials, one for the subsidiary seconds and the other for the precisely jumping minute counter, form a mirror image at 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock. This symmetrical design gives the 1815 CHRONOGRAPH its harmonious and expressive appearance.
