THAT “MADE IN ITALY” LOOK: STYLES WHICH CONQUERED NEW WORLDS

Maserati - 3500 GT
Class F78

It would have been good to have been a witness at some of the moments experienced by this Maserati 3500 GT. That’s not just because of the considerable international acclaim the car received with its elegant coachwork bodied by Touring and as the first sports car to be manufactured by Maserati in significant numbers. Rather, it is because the coupé was purchased by a certain Eddie Fisher in Las Vegas at the beginning of 1962. He was one of the big American entertainers and crooners from the 1950s. Fisher handed over the huge sum of 6400 dollars for the exotic Italian masterpiece finished in Gold Metallic and upholstered in white Connolly leather. He wanted it as a present for his wife, at the time no less than the great Elizabeth “Liz” Taylor. We don’t have a record of the words that passed between the glamorous couple – but she didn’t like the handsome Italian coupé, perhaps she should have taken it for a spin round the block. Eddie Fisher then gave it to a good friend, who was not exactly unknown either – the actor and Maserati fan Anthony Quinn, who held on to the 3500 GT until 1968. The 3500 GT was still located in Southern Califor- nia in the 1990s but it was later put through a restoration in Modena, Italy. Since 2016, the car has enriched a significant Japanese collection.
