VRANKEN POMMERY: ENCHANTING THE WORLD WITH STYLE AND ELEGANCE

In the 19th century, Madame Pommery invented history’s first brut champagne in a progressive and modernised France. The new idea was accompanied by building the Pommery vineyard estate in Reims above the notable Gallo-Roman chalk quarries, which are still used today as the cellar for the valuable Pommery bottles. More modern than ever, Pommery Brut Royal is acknowledged worldwide for its excellence and inimitable style encompassing elegance and refined fruity taste.

Madame Pommery, creative genius and pioneer of an entire sector

When she was left a widow after the death of her husband, Madame Pommery took over the business affairs of Société Pommery et Greno in 1858. She then embarked on continuous expansion of the company, particularly with the creation of a completely new type of champagne – in terms of taste and quality. She was well aware that the quality of her wines depended on carefully tending the vineyards and the good condition of the grapes. Over the years, she built a large number of vineyards that even today occupy the finest positions in all of Champagne.

Domaine Pommery

Madame Pommery wanted to create a unique style of champagne and she launched the “construction project of the century” in 1868 just a few minutes’ walk away from the famous cathedral in Reims. She converted the historic Roman tunnels in the chalk quarries beneath Reims into cellars to store her champagne. This laid the foundation stone for the unique Domaine Pommery.

The invention of Brut Champagne in 1874

In 1874, Madame Pommery revolutionised the world of champagne with her Pommery Nature. Moreover, her presentation of the world’s first vinified brut champagne ensured the international success of the Pommery brand. This was a courageous step for a woman in a sector dominated by men, particularly in an era when champagne was only drunk sweet. Madame Pommery gave her cuvées an elegant, exceptionally female character with their finessed style and aromatic clarity, and this legacy is perpetuated to this day in the quality of the champagnes from this house.

The story: Vranken Champagne

The champagne producer Vranken was established in Épernay (France) in 1976. Vranken belongs to the family-run group VRANKEN POMMERY MONOPOLE. Since the house was founded by Paul-François Vranken, VRANKEN POMMERY MONOPOLE has risen to become the world’s second largest champagne producer. All the houses, Vranken Pommery, Rozès and Listel, make use of highly sophisticated, modern technology so as to offer wines of the very highest quality. Whether they are labelled Prestige Cuvées, Vintages or Gris de Gris –
they all have one thing in common: they fascinate the connoisseurs of aristocratic drinks made from grapes and held in high regard on all five continents.

The art of making champagne: Quality is the top priority

At harvest time and throughout the entire year, Maison Pommery lavishes great care on its vineyards. A major role is played by cultivation of the grapes under the most natural conditions possible taking account of the environment and climate in Champagne as a strictly protected AOC wine region.
This concept of sustainability is reflected in all the processes and since 2014, the House of Pommery has been certified with the environmental labels “Viticulture Durable en Champagne” and “Haute Valeur Environnementale”.

Cuvée Louise is the Prestige Cuvée from the House of Pommery
