Madame Pommery, creative genius and pioneer of an entire sector
When she was left a widow after the death of her husband, Madame Pommery took over the business affairs of Société Pommery et Greno in 1858. She then embarked on continuous expansion of the company, particularly with the creation of a completely new type of champagne – in terms of taste and quality. She was well aware that the quality of her wines depended on carefully tending the vineyards and the good condition of the grapes. Over the years, she built a large number of vineyards that even today occupy the finest positions in all of Champagne.
