BMW - 327/28 Sport-Kabriolett
Classe F77

In 1937, BMW presented the 327 model as a decidedly sporty touring car, which the Munich-based manufacturer produced at its automotive works in Eisenach (Thuringia, Germany). While the standard model contented itself with a six-cylinder engine generating 55 hp, BMW supplied a version packing a robust 80 hp with the 327/28. The latter’s three-carburettor engine was racing-bred in the extremely successful BMW 328 and gave the stylish sports convertible outstanding dynamic driving performance.

Berlin automobile body company Ambi-Budd produced the coachwork in a traditional composite construction, and a convenient central lubrication system was also incorporated on board. Today, it takes a true aficionado to distinguish a 327/28 from the 327 through its external features. By contrast with the standard version, the sports version has central lock wheels secured with wing nuts. Furthermore, the scale of the mileage clock is more ambitious. This example was delivered to Zurich on 13th December 1938 as one of just 569 cars built. Following a comprehensive restoration, the racer has been in the stewardship of the current owner since 2009.
